EarthFund platform update 10/03
Getting closer and closer to a full platform launch 🚀
We’re getting nearer and nearer to launching the complete platform that’s set to reshape the face of decentralized philanthropy.
👋 We’re EarthFund, the decentralized platform using blockchain, DAOs, and crypto to revolutionize the giving economy and give you more of a voice in the shape of tomorrow.
This is post #14 in our new weekly update on everything that happens behind the scenes at EarthFund’s (distributed) HQ.
Happy Monday, Earthlings đź‘‹
This week’s update will be a little shorter than usual for a very simple reason: at this stage in the process, we’re testing, fine-tuning, and making slight tweaks to the UX and UI for a completely intuitive experience.
And while all of this is crucial for launching a great product, it doesn’t exactly make for a page-turning Monday update.
We haven’t made any headline-making, exciting updates to the platform, but that’s not the goal of this stage of the process.
At this stage, the goal is to get the platform working exactly as intended, to catch any bits of UI we can add to make it simpler, and to make sure every element of the platform works together as we want it to.
This stage of any project is like trudging up a steep hill.
There are bugs, fixes, and things to get 100% perfect.
But this is the final push before the summit and we’re all digging deep and working hard. We’re all determined not to let this become another project that was almost there but never quite made it.
Most projects progress quickly until they become 90% complete; then remain at 90% complete forever.

Then, once we’re done (we’ll announce a launch ETA soon) the platform will be ready to start launching as many world-saving DAOs as possible in the first year.
Last week, our strategy team started setting stretch goals for the first year post-launch and planning our marketing and outreach strategies to achieve them.
(💡 A stretch goal is a goal that is intentionally set above normal standards to drive us to push beyond realistic goals and overachieve. They’re not designed to be 100% realized, but to push us to work smarter, push harder and grow faster.)
In the first 12 months, we want to:
🌍 Launch 1,000 world-saving DAOs
🌍 Raise $10M in donations
🌎 Send out $700K in rewards
If we can do that, everyone in the EarthFund community will receive significant rewards as we put $9.3M into community-chosen projects and philanthropic activities that are all helping to build a brighter future.
We know that the bear market has been tough for everyone. But we’re nearly there. And once this is live, we’ll all be part of something that will genuinely make the world a better place.
Testing, testing, and more testing 🧪
Just like last week, our product and development team has been testing the platform and the code to make sure that it works as it should for launch.
(We wanted to say that they’re making it bug-free, but that’s just not possible. As the saying goes “There are two ways to write error-free programs; only the third works.” That said, we’re trying to make sure that all major bugs or unintuitive UI are caught pre-launch.)
Here’s a status update on the high-level platform testing 👇
Max token supply for each cause: tested, approved, and ready to deploy. âś…
Auto-staking into rewards pool: tested, approved, and ready to deploy. âś…
Set token cap for each user: tested, approved, and ready to deploy. âś…
Token minting in the future: tested, approved, and ready to deploy. âś…
Toggle KYC on/off for each DAO: in testing this week. 🧪
Auto-creation of Snapshot Space: being tweaked and tested. 🧪
Zodiac module: tested, approved and ready to deploy. âś…
Reality contract: tested, approved and ready to deploy. âś…
Front-end implementation: in testing with UI and UX tweaks happening simultaneously. 🧪
New Unsplash integration 🚀
We’re currently working on adding an Unsplash integration into the DAO dashboard to allow DAOs to add high-quality, royalty-free images to their landing pages without having to leave the platform, search around or “borrow” images from Google Images.
Now, in the grand scheme of things, this is very a minor update. However, it also has some pretty big knock-on effects.
For starters, it helps every DAO on the platform maintain a professional quality, which ensures brand integrity for EarthFund and builds trust with any people who may want to join a DAO or donate.
Secondly, it removes a barrier to entry and a choke point for new users. Anybody who has ever tried to build their own website knows that images are always a sticking point.
Thirdly, images make a huge impact on how much causes and non-profits can make through donations. (Source.)
This means that a simple integration with a well-respected source of high-quality images won’t just boost the number of donations a DAO gets, but drive membership, increase rewards and help the DAO make even more of a positive impact.
Carbon Removal DAO funds its first two community-led reforestation projects 🌳
Last week, the Carbon Removal DAO sent two grants of $2,500 USDT to the two projects the DAO unanimously approved.
Here’s what Ben at Angry Teenagers has already said about the Carbon Removal DAO’s donation and impact:
“Thanks to the EarthFund’s donation we will be able to plant 600 trees at a site in Ghana where a rich forest ecosystem has been destroyed by logging. We’ll work with young people in the community to plant the trees, and ensure that the community benefits from the new forest, so that it will remain there forever.”
The DAO has already funded the planting of 600 trees to start, covering around 400 m2. However, as carbon credit revenue comes in, more trees will be planted as a result of the DAO’s initial grant.
You can check the progress of the planting via the NFTs here.
One reason the Carbon Removal DAO wanted to support this is project is that it makes innovative use of blockchain technology to improve accountability. The link above may not look like much now, but soon we’ll all be able to see the exact 400 m2 the donation paid to reforest and track the progress of the project over time.
đź‘€ Keep an eye on Telegram and Twitter this week for updates from the other project in Mozambique, a Twitter Space with Ben from Angry Teenagers and an announcement on the dispersal of community rewards.
Q: What makes us different and special compared to The DAO Maker?
This is a great question and something that we’re going to make sure is reflected in our messaging post-launch.
The difference between EarthFund and other DAO launch platforms is three-fold:
Target audience: we’re not targeting crypto heads and degens who know the ins and outs of starting a DAO and the crypto space. We’re targeting people and organizations who are already making a difference and giving them the tools to do that better (and the education on why this is better).
Everything we do and build is with this audience in mind. We’re making decentralization easier to get into, less scary to get started with, and much quicker to start seeing results from.
Accessibility: other DAO platforms may have some more complex functionality for blockchain pros to play around with, and that’s great. But that level of complexity is off-putting to organizations, philanthropists and people making a difference who aren’t in it for the tech, but for the end results of decentralized decision-making, crypto donations and community-building. That’s why we’ve put a lot of time and energy into making the platform super intuitive and easy to use, so that there’s no barrier to entry.
Functionality: while other DAO launchpads do have more complex functionality, we’re unique in that our platform has been built specifically to help world-saving causes, right out of the box. No messy integrations. No having donations available off-site. No hodge-podging your voting, donations and community on different platforms… We’ve built everything world-changing communities need to change the world, all in one intuitive, easy-to-use package
Here’s a new addition to our investment deck which shows why EarthFund is the obvious choice for impact DAOs and non-profits to launch decentralized, philanthropic communities 👇
